October wild life

October is here, and so many have asked...
Will we ever see a moose on this BOM????
It's my month, "sew" let the da moose loose...

It was perfect to bring this forest block, to life.
No glamping here...it's bare bones tent camping for us!
(Well, them anyway, I'm more of a Camper, RV,  or Holiday Inn kinda girl anymore)
Regardless...this wild life is shaping up nicely.
If your like me, your itching to stitch a few of these blocks together now.

Kick in the Pants



My community never fails to amaze with me,
 with how they will come together for you!

When we lost a young member to a car accident...
plans were made.
Last night was a benefit for the family.
Keegan's passions, were his love for the "boots" and Hawaii.
It's a western kinda town, so this quilt design from "Red Boot Quilt Company", seemed to be the perfect choice for a quilt for the auction.
Never in my wildest dreams, did I imagine that it would bring $500 for the family, 
as it came straight from my scrap bins!
Oh my goodness, I know it's got a new loving home too.
Thank you to the Ackerman's and everyone who came to support the family.
Your gone way too soon Keegan, but we promise to take care of your family for you!

Starstruck with "Island Batik"

It's in the "Stars" this month with the Island Batik ambassadors.
Our challenge...star quilts.

I've incorporated the "Friendship Star" into my project.
With fall upon us...I just couldn't help,
 but think about the gorgeous colors that come with the season.
This 35"x 35" bundle of joy is done with  
these "Pumpkin Patch" strips.
I like to keep it real, on my blog.
Not every project is perfect, or a work of art.
I have epic fails just like everyone else, and I'm willing to share.

"Sew" let me tell you...this is a "never will I ever" project!
I saw a photo that inspired this quilt years ago.
Not having any clue what I was getting myself into, I jumped into action.
No directions, no real game plan...
just fly by the seat of my pants and start stitching!
I love the edges, but the lessons I've learned in the process.
(YES, I'm rolling my eyes here)
Having never "pillow cased" a quilt before...
I would not use a heavy duty interfacing on the outer blocks
 along with double batting the quilt.
It seemed like such a good plan in my head, when I did it!
Just try to turn it right side out and get it quilted.
It worked great for keeping it's shape on the wall...
BUT...
"Never shall I ever" 
I'm going back to binding.
LOL!!
What I can tell you, is I love those "Command Performance" removable hangers.
 What a perfect way to hang this guy.
Using split sleeves on the top 3 blocks worked like a charm.

Looks like it's got the "kitty" stamp of approval, too.
"Kenai" seems to think that my office is really her personal space.
A photo shoot without her... ya right!

Welcome to My House Blog Hop

I'd love to welcome you to my house...
but I do want to take a few moments to reflect and remember all the
victims of 9/11/01
A day when so many lives were lost, so senselessly.
A day when lives were changed forever. 
A day when "security" became a word that is now a part of our everyday life.

I work for the airlines and was front row to what happened.
While I looked out the windows, 
all I could see were planes descending from the skies, 
landing at the closest airport available. It was surreal.  
We had no idea what was happening and were scared to death.

Everyone pitched in to get planes to gates and unloaded,
towed off and parked so more planes could get in. 

The tragedy struck in New York, but the entire world dealt with the repercussions.
There were thousands of travelers from all over the globe 
stuck for days in places they had no intention of visiting. 

It brought out the very best in Americans.
It's true... tragedy makes us stronger...differences are set aside...
we become brothers and sisters.
Something so easy to forget from day to day.
RIP, to all the victims and first responders who have, since passed
 from the environmental hazards they suffered, saving so many...

Now, I would like to welcome you to my house with this 
"Wild Rose Cottage" quilt.
I saw this on a blog back in 2013, and  fell in love with it.
When I emailed the blogger who shared it, I was sad to learn that the 
pattern was no longer available. 
It was a "Patchwork Party 2010 online shop, block party pattern.
But, she had actually seen my "International Sunbonnet Sue" quilt 
and we did a little swap.  We mailed each other our patterns.
Now that's the way to do things!
This was quite the undertaking. It took Marti Mitchell templates that I didn't have,
 but they did provide templates for the blocks in the pattern.  
I traced them onto freezer paper and cut out each of the pieces by hand.
Whew...would I do this again...ah that's a big ole NO!
LOL!
I love the finished product...but I did not love the process. I'm a fusible applique girl, 
and this was way outside my wheelhouse! 
What I did learn though, is that I got amazingly accurate piecing 
when the block pieces were cut this way.
Every block came out to the exact size and I was thrilled
 that the quilt was perfectly square when I was done.
I guess I should really dust off my GO cutter and those dies I have in the corner.
It would have saved hours and hours of time.
But, I can now say...I did a quilt the hard way!
This entire quilt was made from my stash. I am on a mission this year, to use it or loose it.
And since I'm opposed to loosing anything, I'm using it up.
"Sew" now... what are your thoughts on swapping patterns,
 when your done with a project you know your never going to do again?
I like the idea myself. I've got shelves of books and patterns, that will
likely never get used again. What a great way to downsize and share the love too!

This particular pattern, has found it's way to a new home. A friend was up a week ago and just had to have it...even after I gave her the low down on all that freezer paper cutting!
LOL!!  I'm anxious to hear if she uses her "GO"on it.

July-Aug-Sept Snow Hearts

I know my blogging buddies thought I must have fallen off the face of the earth.
I'm "waaaaaay" behind in my goal of finishing my "Snow Hearts".
But....
July
August
and September are officially done.
Yay!
It's been a crazy summer here, but better late than never, I say.

I noticed that Bunny Hill has posted the first 6 months of  "Snow Hearts"
