Tickled Pink Blog Hop

 Happy post, Valentines Day! I do hope you all had a wonderful day filled with love. A big thanks to Carla, who knew just what the perfect theme was for this month! You do know how to rock the blog hop world and we "love" you for it.

My project this month is filled with "Minnie" LOVE!

Minnie Mouse, just seemed like the perfect "Pink" project. Well, at least for the moment. Have you heard that Minnie is getting a makeover?  You can read all about it HERE.

Nothing against Stella McCartney, but I am not a fan. Minnie has worn a red or pink dress for as long as I can remember and do we really need to update her with a pantsuit in blue polka dots!

 

Imagine my relief when I found out it was only temporary.

Getting back on track here...

Once again I turned to free clipart online for this project. You do need to remember, when using online clipart, not all is free. Some you must purchase, and some is for personal use only, so make sure you do your homework when using it. You don't want the clipart police knocking at your door! LOL!!

 I enlarged the clipart to print on 2 pages.

Then framed her with Rick Rack using the Accuquilt GO Rick Rack die HERE

It can be very challenging to stitch on black, especially when it's layered over black.  I've found that using a chalk marker along the edge can make it easier to see where you are going, when stitching it down. You can also go a step further in defining her legs afterwards, by straight stitching with a slightly contrasting thread.

Speaking of layering...Applique can get stiff when you add multiple layers.

I like to use HeatNBond®EZ Print Featherlite fusible web.

It allows for multiple layers, while still keeping your applique nice a soft.

You know how us quilters can be...

I had a vision in my head of what I was going to do and started adding sashings, but that Rick Rack started speaking to me, and took me in a completely different direction.

Using my Crafters Edge Alphabet dies found HERE, and a double layer of Rick Rack, was a fun way to finish off my "Tickled Pink" project, and a great reminder to listen to my inner voice sometimes.

 This pink polka dot fleece was perfect for the backing. I love using fleece on the back when I want a lightweight quilt. I don't add any batting or flannel when using fleece. It quilts like a dream and the quilting sinks into the loft of the fleece giving it great texture on the back.

This little "Minnie" quilt is for the little mini who stole my heart...

Yep, she is something else, and this "Nanas" dream!

Child Play with "Island Batik"

This month it's all about "Child's Play" with 

and

"Accuquilt" has generously given me one of their new "BOB" dies.

What's a "BOB" you ask...

Block on Board!

Yep, everything you need to make a block all in one die.

I received the "Crossed Canoe" die and

 decided that a little "play on words" was in order, for this challenge.

LOL!

Here you have...

"You Canoe It"

Life is tough and the best thing we can do for our kids is to 

inspire them to be their best, and let them know that,

 they "CANOE" anything they put their minds to

don't you think?

While the actual canoe isn't a die, the beautiful background

 is made of "crossed canoe" blocks.

I've been hoarding/saving this beautiful stack, of fat eighths from the 

 Blue Moon collection that "Island Batik" gave me.

The time had come...this project just called for me to use it.

LOL!!

All those colors were perfect for these blocks.

It's amazing just what you can do with fat eighths.

That's all it took to make the crossed canoe blades.

As for the canoe...

I searched online for free clipart, and enlarged it.

It was just what I needed to complete my little play on words!

A big thanks to "Accuquilt" and "Island Batik".

I do hope you've enjoyed my "Child's Play".

Artsy Fartsy with “Island Batik” part 2

I’m back, and I'm betting you thought I fell off the face of the earth.
Well, not quite, but my computer crashed and I felt like I pretty much had.
It was only supposed to be a couple of days...
Apparently I have become a slave to technology!
Over a week without a computer...well, is just cruel and unusual punishment.
LOL!!

I've been dying to tell you just how much this  “artsy fartsy” 

theme has really grabbed in attention this month.

This time, I’m sharing a summertime favorite...

This is "Lets Picnic" from "Applique Garden"

Every good picnic should have all these goodies, don't you agree?

LOL!!!

This months challenge is sponsored by "Aurifil " thread. We want to

show you just what you can do with the different weight of threads.

This photo is a great place to start. 

A 40, 50 or 80 weight is perfect for stitching down appliques, when you don't want 

the thread to be the center of attention.

The higher the number the finer the thread.

When I want the details to pop, I use a 28 weight,

Example: the sesame seeds on the hamburger bun and the lines on the onion.

(you know, every hamburger needs onion)

;-)

Or the froth lines in the whip cream on the shake above.

 The pickle details are also done in a 28 weight.

Don't you love how the colors in these "Island Batik" fabrics pop.

These corner appliques are compliments of my Accuquilt GO cutter and dies.

Just a little way to add some additional pop to things, and make a project "yours"

"Aurifil" floss...is a perfect way to attach the buttons.

I love the fact, that "Aurifil" thread has such a wide variety of weights,

 in so many colors.

 I used a Hobbs wool batting, for a fun dimensional look.
I love the loft it has and how it makes my appliques pop off the background.

Here's a little eye candy for you.

Makes your heart go pitty-pat doesn't it?

Oh, how I "LOVE" the wooden spools their floss is wrapped on.

Such a fun, retro feel!

Ready Set "GO" with Island Batik

This month "Island Batik" challenged it's ambassadors to make a baby quilt

with the "Accuquilt GO" cutters we received this year.

Let the fun begin!

After pulling out some bright fun fabrics, I started cutting away.

I had some fun with "Y" seams, earlier this year.

While I conquered them, it was a challenge.  

So I decided now was the time to try it again,

using the "GO" and see if that made them easier to stitch.

Well, I'm here to tell you that answer is

YES!!!

Just look at those star points. I'm doing the happy dance here!

Having the corners trimmed instantly for you, makes all the 

difference in the world in piecing.

It makes those points stitch up perfectly...

and takes the "why" out of those "Y" seams!

Winter is finally giving way to spring here, so I
  took advantage of the sunshine to show off these fabulous fabrics.

Kind of makes your heart go pitty-pat, doesn't it?
