Dashing Thru the Sew

 

Yes, you read that right, it is called dashing thru the sew.  

(although as I type, the flakes are starting to fall)

LOL!

You know those last finishes, before we are all in full holiday swing.

This is a pattern I bought in Houston this year called "Surprise".

It looks like a normal little scrappy quilt, but inside is the surprise.

When you fold back the flaps, just what do you see.

A Strawberry Shortcake peeking back at me.

Along with an array of other goodies.

An eye spy sort of quilt. 

 Are these just the cutest?

What a great teaching tool. 

Besides a fun little quiltie...

It makes a great play mat

For those little ones, who are just learning...

I see memory games, color recognition...

So many things.

It's a great way to use those fun little novelty prints we collect.

And a fun stash buster.

As I was stitching this one, my mind was spinning. With a little piece of added Velcro

on each block, you could attach numerous things to them.

(For older childen of course)

Numbers, shapes, colors...

Heck, you could even add embroidered pieces in themes your child loves.

A pocket on the back to store them all in...

So many ideas so little time!

LOL!!

As for me...I keep saying it is, but then, something new happens!
All I know for sure, is that after the holidays are over, I am going to be making up more of the blocks with my novelites and keeping them till the need for a new quiltie arises. You know, a bit of pre-planning!

Nancy Drew Blog Hop

 As she ran around the house screaming Nancy Drew, Nancy Drew, I know just what to do...

Wednesday November 14th, 2012... Remember that day?

That was the day Madame Samm announced that there was going to be a Nancy Drew Blog Hop and details were to come.  Well, I just couldn't wait for details to start my project.  One thing I have never been accused of,  is patiently waiting for anything!  :-)    I've had this crazy idea rolling around in my head for some time now, and that was the moment it all spilled out!   To work I went without any further ado, and put together "Get a Clue Sue"...

 



Like I said, this one had been rolling around in my head for a very long time. Actually, ever since I bought the book International Sun Bonnet Sues, and found the adorable "Clue Sue" inside.

NOTE:  I enlarged her quite a bit for my quilt.






But oh-no, the rules said I had to use Nancy Drew fabrics.  By the time I read the rules, I had the quilt almost done. That'll teach me to not jump in and run... 

The fabrics were no where to be found yet. What to do, what to do??? 
Heck, this was sew much fun...  that another was due!

So, here you have my official Nancy Drew-Get a Clue Quilt.  The "Drew" fabrics are my borders. It allowed me to work on my project while I waited for the fabrics to arrive.  Which lead to another issue!  Apparently I just can't add...  (Go figure)    When the fabrics were available, I quickly ordered online. As soon as it arrived, I dove in to cut my borders... arrrrrrgh, I was short fabric to make all 4, and to make matters worse, there was no more.

These fabrics disappeared overnight and no shops in my area, had ordered this line. All my favorite online shops were out!  But luckily enough, a Google search with the fabric number, revealed a shop in Oklahoma City that had a partial bolt of what I needed.  Lesson learned, measure once, measure twice, then double that number and order!!  LOL!!  Isn't that what "stash" is all about anyway!  :-)

Don't you love the logo for this hop?  I am sure our beloved Madame Samm, must have had a hand it it.  I enlarged it and added it to my quilt. Hope you don't mind, but it was just what it needed, and I have a "forever" memory of YOU! ;-)

And what better way to do an eye spy quilt.

 

This was a great platform, to play with free motion quilting.

 

 

I was in a free motion frenzy, for awhile on these two!

One would think, I've had enough of "spies" ...

One might... but my mind has kicked  into overdrive

and started to release a barrage of quilt ideas. 

So many quilts, so little time!!!
