Elkfest

This past weekend was Elkfest in Estes Park. I've never been, so I decided to take a little road trip.

With the hoards of people that accended on the town, the elk managed to hide themselves pretty well, but we managed to find a heard, hiding out in a playground behind a hotel.

Unfortunately we were not the only ones to spot these guys...

Once they saw all the people, they headed for the hills!

What a beautiful sight to have seen!

  1. I miss your beautiful state and I love spending time in Estes although it does get a little overrun on weekends. Thanks for the pictures and hope you had a great time. ~Jeanne

  3. We were there a couple of weeks ago and there were large herds inside the park in the meadows. Also saw a family of moose - so fun! blessings, marlene

  4. Isn't it amazing?! I was lucky enough to spend a week in Estes Park on vacation about 17 years ago. There were deer and rutting elk everywhere! I have tons of pictures.

  5. WoW!! They are amazing. What a great idea for a festival. Glad you found some, even for a short time. Maybe the best time to go there is the week before or after the festival.
And did they have fabric? I don't see any elk with quilted coats!

  6. Cool pics! One day (after I win the lottery, lol) I'm going to fly out to see you and have you show me all the wildlife and beautiful scenery where you live. Of course, we'll have to stop at a quilt shop or two, but I know you won't mind a little distraction from the animals, lol.

  7. I must be way more of a city gal than I thought. I have never seen a moose live and in person. They look majestic. Do they roam in town, or do they pretty much stay on the Park lands. Thank you for sharing.

  8. I love Estes Park. Thanks for the pics of the beautiful elk!

I used to visit my son`s home at Grand Canyon here in AZ and elk would walk into the housing area and peek into the windows! Any contact with them is forbidden. They come in to browse early in the day and evening. Early mornings I would hear them bugle. Beautiful!
