A Time For All Seasons-September

It's back to school time and "fall" is in the air.
There are fields of Sunflowers in bloom around here,
so I really couldn't think of a more suitable block for this month.
 "September Sunflowers"
The pieced block this month is the "Missouri Puzzle" block.
You may purchase either of these blocks for $1.50 using paypal
Calicojoan@aol.com
Please note what block you would like.
Careful preparation and piecing is the key on this pieced block.
I suggest that you use starch or spray sizing on your fabrics before you cut them.
It stabilizes the fabric and makes them much easier to stitch.

It's so much fun to see the blocks come together.
A big thanks to
for the beautiful fabrics, I've been using. They really do put the
"zip-pity into my do-dah"
LOL!!

Don't forget to share your blocks on our Facebook page
We have sponsors who are providing fabulous monthly prizes.

Here is the schedule for this year...

Are you laboring this weekend?

First off, Congratulations!
While the "Beat the Heat" blog hop is over...
Nancy D can keep on celebrating!
Yes Nancy, you are my winner of the "Sunny Side Up" charms.
A big thanks to all of you who visited.
I hope you enjoyed this hop as much as I did.
My head is full of ideas and I really do want all the fabrics we saw!
LOL!!!

As for what I am laboring on this weekend...
I spent my day yesterday cutting, and cutting and cutting...
And marking, marking, marking!

Have you see "Partners in Design" quilt along?
I had seen it, but had so many other projects on my plate.
Then those photos started showing up on my Facebook feed...
And well, I was hooked.
While I got a very late start to things, I just couldn't put it down
once I got started on it.
These are the last 4 blocks. Pretty cool don't you think?
Here's the center. Do you see the big boo boo?
I had to re-cut one of the pinwheels, and rats...
I grabbed the wrong dot fabric.
Looks like I will be doin' some rippin' today.
The joys of seeing your errors when you post photos!
HAHAHAHA

It's not too late to get a hold of these patterns, but you better hurry.
You can find them
on their Facebook page.
They have different setting options and some fun way to use these the blocks
if you don't want to make them in to a quilt.
I am using the "Snowy Days Quilting" finishing.
I absolutely fell in love with it, when I saw it.
I do believe Bobbi and Bonnie Hunter could be sisters, with all the pieces
they have you cut. LOL!!
I love working on Bonnie Hunter quilts, so this setting spoke
right to my heart!
Here's a peek at my design wall.
(it's propped up in front of another quilt,
if your wondering what the heck your seeing)
All the little pieces I cut yesterday, will be making sashings like the one
on the second block down from the right.
I'm going to shut up now and get to work on them!
Have a great weekend!

til next time...

Beat the Heat Blog Hop with Island Batik

Welcome to my day to share this new line of "Island Batik" fabric.

If these colors don't cool you down...
I don't know what will!
LOL!!
I searched my book collection and found a quilt pattern,
that really showed off  these fun fabrics,
 in "Fresh and Fabulous Quilts"
by Cheryl Brown

The colors and the secondary design are a match made in Heaven!

There's nothing more fun than quilting a project, that's colors pop like this!
Accept maybe, quilting it with a "Hobb's" product.
Their cotton batting was perfect for the job.

Have you ever tried scalloped borders?
There are templates in the book, that made these super easy.
I wish that had been the case in some of my past projects.
LOL!!
Just for fun, I topped them off with sunny yo-yo's!
I had a little extra fabric...
Just enough to make these petals...

and turn them into this fun flower pillow.

...and that's how my "Beat the Heat" garden grows!

It's "Sunny Side Up" all around.
;-)
Be sure to visit my fellow ambassador "Connie" over at
"Freemotion by the River" today.
She's also showing off a fabulous "Sunny Side Up" project.
Sadly, this hop comes to an end today.
In case you missed any of the new lines and projects...
you can find the complete schedule
HERE

"Island Batik" has a  giveaway you won't want to miss, this week!
a Rafflecopter giveaway
Now, before you go...
there's just one more little thing...
I've got a give-away for one lucky person, too.
Check out the "Island Batik" catalog
And tell me what your favorite new line is?

Stickin' My Neck Out

It's back to school time.
While it no longer affects me much,  I know it frees up
stitching time for many.
Can we say "Happy Dance"?
LOL!!
This cutie pie is actually a bookmark, that's perfect for kids!
With all the reading that will need to be done, for the school year...
He's just perfect.
:-)

This is from "Animal Attraction" from Annie's.
There's a flamingo that is designed for a scissors holder that would be "sew" cute too!
Think of all the events at school, when treats are needed.
A handful of bookmarks would be fun, and better than sweet treats.
They are quick and easy to put together and just take scraps.
Scatter a few hearts on him and you've got a perfect "Valentine".

Under the Needle

What's under your needle this week?
I may have been quiet for awhile, but that doesn't mean I'm not crazy busy.
It's likely you've seen the smoke.
LOL!!
This week I finished 3 quilts...well the binding still needs hand stitched down
on one of them, so I guess that doesn't really count as a finish yet.
I wrapped up my week, with this fun guy under my needle.
It reminds me of the play, where the plant eats people.
What the heck is the name of that anyway.

There are just so many super secret projects.
Your going to want to keep an eye out.
You never know just when they will pop up.

Speaking of super secrets...
Have you been following the "Island Batik" blog hop?
They are showing us the new lines of fabrics, with some fabulous projects.
The schedule is  HERE
Check it out...there are "cool" weekly giveaways!

I'm excited to say, that Marian at "Seams to be Sew" has set her dates for the

It's a "Wild" Life

Well...it's done, I finally got my top from last years
BOM quilted.
All quilted up and ready to relax next to the car pond, with.
Or not...it's been hot hot hot, so I might just enjoy it
inside with the air conditioning on!
LOL!!
This has to be one of my favorites. The theme was perfect, for this girl.
And my fellow designers...what can I say. They rocked it!!!
:-)
A big thanks to "Island Batik" for sponsoring the fabrics for this
fabulous quilt.
