Highlights from Houston

Yes, I took that new broom and did fly away...All the way to Houston for the International Quilt Festival.

Ok, so I took Southwest Airlines, and they would likely be very offended that I call their planes brooms! We had delightful flights, were to our destinations early both ways, and got snacks and drinks of the planes. What a treat! Could you ask for anything more?

I'm going to warn you now, this is a very photo heavy post. I'm going to share my favorites from the show with you.  Sit back, grab a cuppa and enjoy!  :-)

This was the Superior Thread winner, best yet the quilter was from Superior Colorado. No connection at all, but it is just up the road a bit from me. Looks like I need to make some new friends soon!

Is the detail in this guys, is just incredible? If I remember right she said she used about 3 miles of thread in it!

This is a portion of the $10,000 Handiquilter sponsored winner!
I couldn't get close enough to get much more of a photo, and no wonder why?
If that isn't a Currier and Ive's moment, I don't know what would be. It was just stunning, and yes it was a quilt, not a photograph!
Whew what talent.

This photo doesn't do justice to the dimension that was in the quilt. It just popped off of the face of it.

The colors make my heart dance!

All corners of our world!

Speaking of world...
What a take, is this one on it?
I love the scan code quilted into it.

The earth is hand painted I believe.

This cupcake quilt just makes me smile from ear to ear. Would this be a fun swap or what?
Anyone interested in doing one after the beginning of the year????

Oh the colors!

I can so see this in a little ones room. Is that just the sweetest thing?

There's a lot of hub-bub about this one.
I only wish I had taken better photos...

This is 1 quilt with shots taken from 3 angles

It's one of those "holy cow" quilts. How did they do that, and oh my gosh it is stunning!

We talked with the gal who did this horse quilt. She came home from a vacation with the vision.
I told her the only thing I ever came home from vacation with was a 10 lb weight gain.
Life isn't fair!  We had a big ole laugh over it!

There is just something about this one, that drew me in...

This beauty is all open. How'd you like to bind that one!
What a cool looking quilt though.

And for all you button fans...

Break out that stash, and get started.
I just love this.

It was the Ruby Jubilee this year, and what a red and white display they had.

These were just a tiny portion of the fabulous quilts on display. There isn't enough bandwidth on any internet to do them all justice.
After looking over my post, it looks like the animals were where my heart laid this year!
Next year we need to meet there!

Is there a special name for that kind of thing? Surely that must be computer calculated to get the effect correct!

  14. It was a great show wasn't it! The Earth hanging in the window was one of my favorite quilts. Did you scan the code? It really worked and pulled up a video by Carl Sagan. Try it:)

  15. I am so ashamed that I live in Texas and have never been to Houston. But I will go one day. I will, I will, I will. But never as a judge! OMG That would be a nerve racking job. Thank you for sharing all these lovely photos.
