Bloggers Quilt Festival

Another season has rolled around and it's time for Amy's fabulous Quilt Festival again. Such a fun time, when we get to visit each other.
Thanks to Amy and all the hard work she puts in, as well as the wonderful sponsors,
who make it so much fun.

If you read my blog, you may have seen this earlier this summer.
This quilt was one that I made for the Island Batik Summer Blog hop.
The pattern is "Summer Fun" from the Quilt Company.
The fabrics are from Island Batik.

I love how each and every block shares a bit of summer fun.

All the memories for my childhood.

And those batiks that make it all "pop".

Even though the seasons are changing I can hold onto the memory of those warm summer days.

Make sure you visit all the other fabulous bloggers and see their creations at Amy's Creative Side right

Bloggers Quilt Festival

Thanks Amy, for another fabulous Quilt Festival.
You know we just can't wait, for it to roll around.

I've been busy as a beaver the past few days trying to get my
entry finished in time.

Whew!  Made it with just hours to spare.

My entry in the "Scrappy" category, is my
Quilt Show BOM from 2014.

A-Z for Ewe and Me
by Janet Stone

This one called my name for quite awhile, before I took the plunge and renewed my membership.
I looked at it for months, then threw caution to the wind and jumped in.

This is just something about all the blocks that I couldn't shake.

and that border, that just make it pop!

But these adorable little lambs...
They got me hook, line, and sinker.
:-)

Here I am working away on it, at our quilt retreat last month.
I actually put the wine away when I worked on this one!
If you've read my blog...you know what trouble we got into with the wine!
LOL!!
The true sign of a wildly successful retreat.
(And I know the others agree)
TEE HEE...

I had all the blocks together when I left.

What a great stash buster this was. The only fabric I bought
was the dark blue for the border. Don't you just love it,
when you actually shop your stash?

Oh and that little machine that was using at retreat...
That's the one I quilted the entire quilt on.
This 68" x 87" quilt, is just shy of double size.
It's was a first for me, to attempt something this large.
And what fun it was!

Thanks for visiting the MooseStash, and feel free to drop in anytime!

Enjoy the rest of the hop.

I know you'll find some incredible talent right...
That's bound to capture your heart!
Thanks again Amy, your the best.
;-)

Bloggers Quilt Festival Applique Entry

Moosestash is my name, but applique is my game!  I have long loved a great applique design. I love telling a story in fabrics, and for me applique does just that.

My entry for this category is my Arabian Nights Quilt. I recently finished this fun little lap quilt. What a story it does tell...Aladdin and friends all together again!  :-)

The Wizard

The Guards

 The Monkey

Every one's favorite hero...
Aladdin

The Parrot

The Sultan

And Genie

The whole game framed by beautiful scroll work

This was my first time cross hatching.

So much to learn...so little time!

Thank you Amy for allowing us to all be a part of a wonderful sharing experience.
Be sure to visit all the other wonderful participants!
So much eye candy...

Bloggers Quilt Festival Art Quilt Entry

Don't you just love this time of the year...when that wonderful Amy brings us all together for the best quilt show on the planet. One where we all can participate and view all the pretties without leaving our home. No traveling to far away places, no crowds, just fuzzy slippers and a big ole cuppa!  Thanks Amy, you make our lives complete!  :-)

This time around, I played with a little art quilting. If you have visited me, you know I am an big applique "junkie". This time, I took it to a whole new level. Being the huge coffee lover that I am, I started collecting the bags it comes in. I had a vision...and a few years later it came to pass!

This crazy guy was born!

Never having approached anything like this before, it took some brainstorming.
I started with tracing my design on fusible web, and ironed it onto the back on my coffee bags.
The plan in my head was great, but in theory, it didn't work out so well. You can't peel the backing off the web and leave any of it on the coffee bag, with the slick surface!
:-(

But it did allow me to cut out my shapes, then
I  resorted to using a glue stick to keep my pieces together.
It was a very daunting task, but it worked.
:-)

Carefully moving it to my background fabric, I was able to zig-zag each piece down.
I was delighted, how nicely those bags stitched!

And so much fun to see it come to life adding different bags.

It became all about the placement of each piece on the coffee bag...

To frame off my little guy, I added some Herky Jerky coffee cups.
Have you ever Herky Jerkied before???
It's sooooooo much fun!

There you have my coffee inspired friend!
Background quilted and stretched on a canvas, hanging forever in my kitchen... My "homage" to the coffee gods. Reminding me that I drink way too much coffee.
;-)
But I wouldn't have it any other way.
Straight up, no cream no sugar.
LOL!!
Your welcome to stop in and share a cuppa anytime!

Just a note:
I think the biggest challenge of this entire project was taking photos. Nothing reflects more in a camera lens than those darn shiny coffee bags...who knew!
So sorry about some of the photos. I did my best.
:-)

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoyed.
I myself, am off to see what everyone else has been up to.
See you there.
Thanks again Amy!

Amy's Bloggers Quilt Festival Applique Entry

Bloggers Quilt Festival time again!  I am so happy. It gives me a chance to see old friends as well as make new ones. I just love this time of the year. Bloggers are so inspirational. I find myself lost in the sea of patterns, color and design. So much motivation, so little time!   Amy, you have found a way to entice us all into this wonderful world. I don't suppose you would be a doll and find us a few extra hours in the day too??
LOL. Probably not, but worth my asking!  :-)

I have an applique quilt I would love to share with you. Fusible applique has long been my favorite method of quilting. Things just take shape so quickly.

Thru my blogging, I was introduced to a  fabulous web site in Australia, called the Quiltery. (it's linked for you)  They have the cutest darn patterns I have ever seen.  This one caught my eye, and I knew it had to go right to the top of my list of holiday projects.

Wish Upon A Star

I fell in love with the soft colors and precious faces.

Tiny buttons and embellishments make this quilt come alive.

I learned a valuable lesson while making this.
I've always been a matchy matchy kind of girl. I change out my threads with every color change on my appliques.

Something fell short though, it just needed something, to kick it up a notch.
I got out the black thread and ended up going over everything again.
Yes, I did.  Whew!
:-)

It made all the difference in the world.

Who'd a thunk!

Hope you enjoyed my adventures with applique
and
these cuties!

I highly recommend you check out The Quiltery . The cost of a years membership is nominal, and patterns are fully downloadable.  Oh, I live for those things!
They even offer designs for embroidery machines.
Way cool.

Thanks again Amy!
Happy Hopping to all!

UPDATE
9-14-2015
I noticed there's been a lot of interest in this quilt recently.
Some have inquired as to where to find the pattern.
Unfortunately, "The Quiltery" is no longer in business.
An unexpected death in the family forced them
to close their business doors over a year ago now.
I for one miss them dearly!

Bloggers Quilt Festival Time

I had this little project started, when Amy sent out that email reminding us of the upcoming "Blogger Quilt Festival". Whew, I had to step it up, to finish in time for it.   Day and night, night and day, even on a trip to New Mexico to see the International Balloon Fiesta... My machine was with me, and running every spare moment!

That being said, here is what I was up to...

My favorite Scrappy Quilt!
I know many of you know what it is. When I posted this photo recently,
I heard from quite a few of you, that you knew just what I was up to!
:-)
And right you were.
For those who needed another clue... Well, they swim in pods!
Yes they do!
Bonnie Hunters "Orca Bay". You knew it all along.
I downloaded all the instructions a couple of years ago, when it was a mystery quilt (it's now in Bonnie's String Fling book). Needless to say, it was no longer a mystery to me. The only real mystery was, when was I going to start on it!   LOL!!
Once I did, I was hooked.

From these crazy fun 3 1/2" squares pieced on phone book pages,

to the wonderful secondary designs that emerged as I stitched.

Just one problem, after cutting out and stitching 448 black and 448 white hour glass units, 350 black and 350 white triangle units, another 700 black (oh yeah,  you read it right), 112 black, 112 white, and 56 green 2 1/2"squares.
Those 64 green 5-1/2" blocks that were string pieced and the 72 purple 3-1/2" ones...
I decided that I loved it so much, that it was going to need to be much larger than the  74.5 x 84.5 quilt it was.
Back to work I went cutting and stitching, not one more entire quilt, but two!
I can't even make myself do the math for all three now!
(tee hee)

You see, I wanted a big quilt. A really big quilt.
So big in fact that it lead to another problem.

My bed is a California King that sits very high off the floor. I wanted this to be a bedspread, but my long arm, can only accommodate about a 100" wide quilt, and that is stretching its capability. What to do, what to do???

                                       Remember those Orcas?
I dug out my old McKenna Ryan "Rhythm of the Sea" pattern for them.

With the use of my favorite, Quilt As You Go (QAYG) method, I was able to add extra borders, to this to get the width I needed. You can find additional posts on stretching a king size quilt, here on my blog!
:-)
It really ended up being a little bigger than what was necessary, but I wanted to keep enough of the design continuing on, under the border.

So there you have it, a super king size scrappy quilt!

                        The final size is 125.5" wide x 117" long. It's a biggie.
I am thrilled to say, the only fabric I had to purchase was the 12 yards of backing I used. Thanks to Bonnie Hunter, I was able to use up scraps for this guy!
It really is amazing just how much Bonnie has taught us, in maximizing the use of fabric scraps.
Bonnie was in Denver the day this was finished. I so wish I had been in her class.
The waiting list was long, and I just didn't make the cut!  LOL, but I have my piece of Bonnie right here, and thrilled I am.
Hope you have enjoyed my journey thru Orca Bay.
You can see more from Bonnie at
She shares loads of free patterns on her site, as well as sharing all her scrap saving tips!  Check it out, I'll bet you have a quilt or two worth of scraps in you sewing room too!
:-)
A very big thanks to Amy for hosting this wonderful hop. Where we all get a chance to see old friends, meet new ones and just relish in the eye candy, that everyone has to share.

Ahhhhhh...life is good!
:-)
