Dashing Thru the Sew

 

Yes, you read that right, it is called dashing thru the sew.  

(although as I type, the flakes are starting to fall)

LOL!

You know those last finishes, before we are all in full holiday swing.

This is a pattern I bought in Houston this year called "Surprise".

It looks like a normal little scrappy quilt, but inside is the surprise.

When you fold back the flaps, just what do you see.

A Strawberry Shortcake peeking back at me.

Along with an array of other goodies.

An eye spy sort of quilt. 

 Are these just the cutest?

What a great teaching tool. 

Besides a fun little quiltie...

It makes a great play mat

For those little ones, who are just learning...

I see memory games, color recognition...

So many things.

It's a great way to use those fun little novelty prints we collect.

And a fun stash buster.

As I was stitching this one, my mind was spinning. With a little piece of added Velcro

on each block, you could attach numerous things to them.

(For older childen of course)

Numbers, shapes, colors...

Heck, you could even add embroidered pieces in themes your child loves.

A pocket on the back to store them all in...

So many ideas so little time!

LOL!!

As for me...I keep saying it is, but then, something new happens!
All I know for sure, is that after the holidays are over, I am going to be making up more of the blocks with my novelites and keeping them till the need for a new quiltie arises. You know, a bit of pre-planning!

Making Memories

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I know this doesn't look like a typical Thanksgiving post, but you'll soon understand...

When a dear friend passed away the beginning of the year, I was delighted to be asked by the family, to keep her memory alive. They wanted her favorite sweater to be made into a Christmas quilt.

Mary had a Christmas sweater that she wore every year.

When I was given the sweater, I wasn't sure what to do.

You know how they say, your fabric will speak to you?

When I found it, it became quite clear.

I carefully went to cutting out the appliques, from the sweater.

 

After careful consideration, I chose to leave the sweater behind the appliques.

Using mono-filament thread, I zig-zaged the edges to keep

 any sweater pieces from coming thru.

I just love how the appliques seem to float on top of the quilt.

 

A few simple prairie points almost hidden away, 

was a perfect way to be able to add the buttons into the quilt.

Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks, for everything in our lives.

Mary, I'm so thankful to have been able to be a small part of your life.

You always made everyone, feel like family.

You are missed each and every day.

But your spirit lives in us all.

I hope this quilt brings a little extra blessing to each and every

one of your family, at the holidays!

Oh those memories, we all share.
