April Showers

I was in a mood to make a quick little project yesterday on my only day off work, for a week. Angie over at Angie's Bits and Pieces had just posted a new little April Showers applique.

Isn't it cute!

I was having such a good time practicing my free motion quilting. When whoosh, I needed to iron down a piece of the fusible applique that came loose. What happened after that made me want to cry.  After all my work at making sure my hand dyes are washed so they don't bleed, what happens, but a big ole green bleed mark not only on the front but the back too. ARRRRRGH!

I decided to throw it in the wash right away to hopefully get it to come out.

As you can clearly see, that challenge proved to be too much, and it just didn't happen on the back. The front seemed to be fine though. Strange - I think to myself! But...
I must say, I do love the looks of the quilting on the back. One of the ah-ha moments was when it came out of the dryer. I don't wash my wall hangings that are fusible. Not sure why, but I never have. But that is all about to change. The dimension and texture I got from the washing and drying is incredible. It makes me happy just looking at it.  Yeah the green sure has bled thru, but what the heck, it's the back after all, right?
The front is all good and well, and makes up for it all. Thanks Angie for yet another great project. I love my wall hanging.

This piece has a mixed meaning for me. As you all saw earlier this year, my basement is being remodeled. (oh yeah, we are still working on that)  Part of the reason, was water damage from last year. Hubby went on the roof and fixed things. Then the neighbor started the remodel. A week ago they were ready to texture. Hurray, it's been months that things have been torn up. We had a little rain the night before and guess what? The roof repair did not work and the rain took out the brand new drywall on the ceiling again!!!!!!!!  Need I say it wasn't one of my finer moments. The neighbor kept me from killing my husband, telling me it was better to find it now, rather than after it was all finished and the carpet was installed. Yeah I know he's right, but...

Anyway hubby is still alive and I am waiting for texture. We've had more rain, and things all seem good with the repair, now. It's a 3rd job for the neighbor. His main job is farming and it's a busy time for him with planting, so I am on wait again for awhile. But all is well. I got a part of my sewing room cleared out so I can work, and I have this great quilt to commemorate my rain story! Or, should I say have something to remind hubby of, for years to come!!! No, I 'm not that vindictive!  :-)  Really I'm not!!  :-)  :-)

  1. What a lovely wallhanging, I love your quilting, you did a great job!! I wouldn't worry too much about the bleed-through on the back, it gives the whole thing a bit of character and it is on the back afterall!!! Good luck with the rest of your remodelling, sure glad the DH is still around to live another day LOL!!!

  2. great piece, if you want to get the bleeding out take a tea kettle boil water take synthrapol and rub into the area then pour the boiling water over the top and let sit in a bowl when it's cool you will see it should be gone. Good luck and once again great piece.

  4. Hi friend,
Just wanted to stop by and wish you a Happy Easter and to say "Thank You" for the best Easter present ever. The mailman today delivered an adorable purple notebook folder to me with all the goodies in it. It is wonderful--you are such a good friend. I love it! Now Mary doesn't have to worry that I'm going to steal hers, lol. Thank you so much, Joan; I'll treasure it always.

  5. Glad I checked in on you today, Joan! I am really blown away with what a wonderful job you've done with this design. Love your quilting. And if you hadn't mentioned it, no one would know about the green bleeding through. I thought all the rain we were getting was bad enough, but hearing your story realize I should be grateful that all I'm dealing with is cold, wet weather - fortunately no leaks! So I'm glad this little design served its purpose of cheering both you and me up! (-:
