Pin cushions are one of those things that, for those who sew, are a required piece of equipment. Not that I didn't spent many many years trying to prove that I "didn't need no pins"! LOL!! But like many before me, I succumbed to common sense. Not soon enough for my best friends mom, who was a seamstress. I remember her breaking out in a cold sweat just watching me sew! She has passed now, so I will never know, but I can't help but wonder why she never said too much to me. You know what had to be going thru her head!
So thanks to "that" bit of common sense that took over, and the Kompletely Kookie Kristen for hosting this fun blog hop. If ya gotta have the tool, it should be just about as much fun as you can make it right??? LOL!! Hat's off, or should I say "straight pin salute" to Madame Samm for leading the charge with her fabulous blog hop ideas... We are gonna have the "best-est" pin cushions out there! :-)
In Alaska last month, I saw a really fun pin cushion, in one of the quilt shops I visited... hummm I had actually started a project at home, and it would make a great addition. Best yet, there was that blog hop I had signed up for!!!
After all, one can never have enough places to keep supplies!
Now there was just enough fabric for one more project. It could be a bread basket... or just a fun little wall hanging with a little "moosie" sign on it!
Oh yea, the moosie won out in this house! :-)
Here are a few photos of pin cushions I have made and collected over the years.
I love finding new ones and I see many more coming into my collection with what I have seen in this hop so far!
:-)
Now lets get to the point! Give a way time! (get it) LOL!!

Remember the It's a Wrap, it's a bowl folks?
What a fun way to made a pin cushion.
It's really nothing more than 2 bowls glued together!
While I was busy "wrapping", I thought another bowl might be appropriate.
Now there was just enough fabric for one more project. It could be a bread basket... or just a fun little wall hanging with a little "moosie" sign on it!

Regardless, it completed the on-som!

Surely there must be a "moose" in there somewhere...
Of course there is!
:-)
Now lets get to the point! Give a way time! (get it) LOL!!
I'm not monkeying around.
:-)
Leave me a comment telling me about a time when you really should have used pins, and I will pick one lucky winner on Saturday Sept 17th
the last day of our hop.

I always use pins!
ReplyDeleteYou do have a fun collection! And I am so pleased to see that there really is a moose in there!
ReplyDeleteGreat job. Thank you for sharing :)
ReplyDeletePlease don't enter me in the giveaway, but just wanted to say thanks for sharing - you have quite a collection of pincushions!
ReplyDeleteI love your matching set! Great collection you have! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou have such great pincushions! Loved your matching set too. I love how you incorporated the moose. Great to see that I am not the only one drowning in pincushions..... Still, I never seem to have enough of them. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteVery nice pin cushions. I knew there'd be a moose in there.
ReplyDeleteVery clever and cute pin cushions - all of them. Thanks for sharing your creativity today!
ReplyDeleteWow that's a lot of pins. I am hand stitching a quilt right now and it is shifting abit. I need to add more pins like now!
ReplyDeleteVery coolio use of the bowls! I think the Mother should have used a pincushion the other day when she just stuck them into the sofa in a hurry and then sat down!!!OUCH!!!
ReplyDeleteI have all the supplies to make one of those bowls but just never have.. Now you have given me a whole new idea of what to make...
ReplyDeleteWhen was a time when I should have used a pin? hmmm Maybe when my brother made me so mad I kept a headache for 3 weeks.. I should have stuck him in the hiney with a pin!!
LOL I like the above comment...good one! you made wonderful pieces...I love your collection.
ReplyDeleteI should always use pins; my sewing friends joke about me not pinning things!!!
Great idea! Your bowl set is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love your wraps! The very first time I tried to machine quilt something - a small pillow top -- I decided that pins weren't necessary. Needless to say, by the time I finished the top and bottom layers had slip faaaar apart and the pillow ended up being a LOT smaller than I intended, lol.
ReplyDeleteNice 'stuff'!! Like them all. Thanks for sharing and the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteOh your set is so lovely!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful array - how in the world did you make those bees! A couple of weeks ago I was trying to make a flying geese border and didn't use pins. One goose went north, one goose went south, one...well you get the picture! blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteYou have got a lot and some are really funny.
ReplyDeleteWarm regards from Holland,
Marga♥
I use pins in all my projects, so i use Pons everyday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great set you made! I love the pincushion over the baskets... I have to use pins. When I don't I end up using 'the other' must have gadget: the seam ripper!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm always using pins. I'll pin something and my mother will say 'I never pin that I just sew it and it doesn't take me long'. That makes me so mad. I use to think I wasn't very good because I always pinned.
ReplyDeletegreat bowls and pin cushions, I think I want to try making those bowls now too.
ReplyDeleteI think it would have to be putting in a zipper, as the time(s) that I should have pinned and basted before sewing. Could be one of the reasons most do not like zippers. I do pin and poke myself now while doing them .... it is just a little quicker that way.
thanks for sharing and hosting a give away

The first time i tried to bind a quilt by hand, i really should have used pins. babscorbitt@ gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteFor not using pins I have to say you have quite the collection and what a unique project you found for this hop! I love it!
ReplyDeleteIt happens a lot for me...I'm one to always try the shortcut. Not using pins usually bites me when putting rows of blocks together.
ReplyDeleteyou wrap me in smiles time and time again....love that footstool?
ReplyDeleteClever use of bowls--who would have thought. Cute post and I love your story about not using pins. I am afraid I am a pinner--is that even a word--lol. Thanks for the story and sharing your pin cushions.
ReplyDeleteuhh fun. i need to step up my bowl creations....
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful projects they are all perfect.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pincushions. They are all so inventive. Thanks so much for sharing
ReplyDeleteI liked your story about your friends mother. You created a perfectly unique cute set of handy dandy sewing baskets to go with your pincushion. I'm an overpinner, my home ec teacher drilled it in my head 40 years ago !
ReplyDeleteWhen I curve piece I should use pins.
ReplyDeletemabear29@ymail.com
I really should use pins all the time... so I do! Haha, I've never been one to tempt fate, so I pin everything! Thanks for sharing all your pretty cushions.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great collection of pincushions too. Your wrapped up idea is the best. When I am holding an applique piece down.
ReplyDeleteThose pincushions are great. I love the beehive! I am someone who over-uses pins. I never trust myself and I insist on perfection for me. DUH!
ReplyDeleteI don't usually use pins and I know I should. I made a very pretty quilt without pins one time and as I was quilting it, several of the seams came undone because they had shifted when I was sewing them. So I now try and use pins more often, especially for bigger seams.
ReplyDeleteLove all of those pin cushions. I knew there would need to be a moose there somewhere.
What a great collection of pincushions!

ReplyDeleteOoops, I forgot to comment on pins! I really should pin when I am making the spicy swirled table runner. I'm not usually a pinner, but I have found there are times when it really helps!
ReplyDeleteI love your new pin cushion and your older ones, as well. I've always wanted to try making a bowl, but I haven't gotten around to it yet--maybe it is time. Lovely work, as usual!
I really like the Christmas trees :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat way to use the fabric wrap bowls. You have quite a collection of wonderful pin cushions. The time I should have used pins and didn't was just after I learned about pressing seams opposite ways and nesting them. I was making a hexagon I Spy and my friend assured me with this method I would not to need to use pins to get perfectly matched seams. Wrong. After a couple of rows I was nesting my seams but also pinning. With more experience behind me I sometimes forget about the pins when nesting seams but not always. Thanks for sharing and the giveaway. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great bunch of pin cushions! (I need to make a little bee hive for myself!!!)
ReplyDeleteI have safely forgotten the times I should have used pins and didn't. I know it has happened - I've just blocked the memories!!
I love your wrap pincushions! Thank you for sharing your collection.
ReplyDeleteYour pincushion collection is amazing! I'm one who only pins when I have to - but I have learned that what you can get by with while piecing blocks doesn't work when assembling rows for a top. The longer the seam the more I pin.
ReplyDeleteGreat pincushions!
ReplyDeleteI use pins a lot so for me it's usually a case of I should have used more - especially when I'm trying to line up rows and I often just pin either end!
Great collection! Love them all!!!
ReplyDeleteI try to use pins to line up seams... hate how it looks when it isn't even close... close enough is grand!
All of your pin cushions are cute I always say I should have used more pins.
ReplyDeletesmjohns63 at yahoo dot com
Great pincushions. All are lovely. I should use more pins when I'm binding...probably would go faster. I don't even use those nice binding clips. Thanks for the giveaway chance.
ReplyDeleteGreat collection are you showing us! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove those pin cushions...many times I should have but did not. I finally gave up and all the seams line up now, duh. Well, for the most part, I definately need them during foundation paper piecing.
ReplyDeleteWhen should I HAVE used pins oh my. With serging I try to pin fabrics so they won't get in the cutter. That said I have found that I have left pins INSIDE a project, doesn't sleep well :)
ReplyDeleteWhen should I have pinned???... is when I end up frog stitching you know rip-it, rip-it ,rip-it!!!!with that handy seam ripper. If I had pinned it I would not be frog stitching! That is when I should have used pins!!!
ReplyDeleteI should have pinned yesterday while working on some binding instead of having to use the old seam ripper :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your fun pincushions!
I should of used pins when trying to make seams line up. Thank you for sharing your pin cushion with us.
ReplyDeleteLove all of the pincushions. I almost always use pins. Thanks for the giveaway and for sharing. vickise at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteGreat job Joan! All your bowls look beautiful in those fabrics.
ReplyDeleteYou never disappoint me. The bowls are sew cool and enjoyed seeing your collection too.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting...I've never seen bowls done like this....sure works out well for a pin cushion.
ReplyDeleteYou have quite the cute collection of pincushions. I find them to be such a comfort for needles and pins. Timeless and treasured. Creative Bliss and Great Hop...
ReplyDeleteGreat ptojects. Lov ethem all. ok its all about pins...But i lvoe the bowls too....The last time I sewed was to make a minky baby blanket...I always pin them to death. bucause if I don't they start slideing and slithering like lil snakes trying to run away.....well I have been sick , surgery you name. So I am tired and no energy and thought I could just sew with a lot less pinning.....Way to little needless to say i ended up haveing to rip the whole darn thing out and redo it again..Learned my lesson and was thinking in the back of my mind the whole time I bet it is gonna be a mess without pinnig it all down. Because I learned my lesson this same lesson several years back on this same type project.
ReplyDeleteLove all of your pincushions, and I was sure there would be a moose there somewhere!!
ReplyDeleteWell done.
cheers

Nice collection of pincushions. Monkey Business could go to a different home.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I make a quilt thinking that I can do it without it, Can't live without pins. Thanks for having a give away.
ReplyDeleteI have to say when it cmes to pins I am kind of a nut! Probably I OVER pin! LOL can never be to careful!
ReplyDeleteI always have used pins. Sometimes on borders I do not pin enough and then I get a few little waves when I quilt it. Boo Hoo.
ReplyDeleteI originally made clothing. Anytime you made a dress to set in a sleeve with the tons of ruffles, and gathers...you pin, otherwise they get all turned and freaky!. Cute pincushions.
ReplyDeleteYour pincushions are adorable. I need to use pins all the time. It seems that when I think I shouldn't have to use pins that's when I make a mistake. I pin just because anymore.
ReplyDeleteWonderful collection of Pin cushions. Love the bowl cushion. If I had used pins the morning when sewing Dresden plate sections together I would not have to spend quality time with the seam ripper this evening,
ReplyDeleteHope this doesn't post twice but I started and it disappeared . Great collection of pincushions ! One time I was sewing borders on a quilt I thought I don't need to pin but when I got to the end of the side of the quilt I realized I should have as things did not line up and the seam ripper had to come out . Thanks for sharing with us today.!
ReplyDeleteawesome collection. love the little snowmen heads and of course the MOOSE.
ReplyDeleteWonderful work!
ReplyDeleteYou have a very nice collection..pins? I am a pinned so can't really think of a time when I didn't use them..
ReplyDeleteGreat pincushion(s)!! Wrapping one up was a lovely creative use of 'wrapping'. Well...I am a pinner...so here's my pin story. I made this gorgeous boudoir pillow for a gift. I used lots of programming with sewing stitches, added special buttons and ribbons and added a piece of ruching all around the pillow. I HAD to pin, pin, pin! After gifting the pillow, my granddaughter FOUND a pin that was embedded in the pillow. It took some fancy handwork to extract that sewn-in pin and repair the necessary mend!
ReplyDeleteYou've got some really adorable pin cushions. I really like the moose! I'm a pinner, so I really can't think of any time I should have but didn't. My mother started me sewing when I was quite young. She was a seamstress and used lots of pins and that's what she taught me to do. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteLove your plethora of pincushions!! I have to use my seam ripper if I don't use pins when binding.
ReplyDeleteGmama Jane
I love the unique style of your pincushion...too cute! I'm quite wow'd by your pincushion collection. I'm pretty bad at using pins, but they do come in handy once in a while. :O)
ReplyDeleteI can't beleive you made those baskets, then made them into a pincushion - I love the basket with the Moose sign, it really does complete the en-som!
ReplyDeleteMost recently, I should have used MORE pins in my cathedral window pc, the it wouldn't be crooked.
:)

These are all so cute. You are very creative. Love the basket pin cushion also. Thanks for being part of the blog hop.
ReplyDeleteHappy quilting,
Shelia
What wonderful pin cushions and baskets! And I love the photo quilt you shared in the previous post! What an heirloom! I should have used pins when I hemmed my kitchen curtains. One side is a full inch shorter than the other side.
ReplyDeleteVery clever to put two bowls together to make a pincushion. Love the pincushion as well as the companion pieced you made. I'm a pinner or a wonder clipper. I'd rather pin than have to use the seam ripper.
ReplyDeleteLots of fun pinnies to drool over. I absolutely love the bee hive one...wow.
ReplyDeleteSorry but my mind is soooo bad that I can't remember my worst time when I didn't use pins. May I enter anyway?
ReplyDeleteVickie
Oh I do want to say how much I love your pin cushions, creative and I adore snowmen.
ReplyDeleteVickie Again
I have a seam ripper out right now to rip out what could, should have been pinned. I really like your coordinated accessories and pin cushion. They are very pretty and look very artsy. Thanks for sharing and the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteGreat set you made! Thanks for sharing your older ones too.
ReplyDeleteLove your cushions and bowl...and that fat cat pinnie you showed in the group is my fave!
ReplyDeleteLove the baskets, very nice.
ReplyDeleteI love your pinnies, especially the bowls. I am a pinner, I rarely do anything I don't pin. So one night not long ago I was sewing real late in the night or early in the morning (2 am) trying to finish a quilt top. I pinned my row together on my lap and sewed. When I stood up to press, I realized I had pinned and sewn my shirt in the seam. Obviously time for bed.
ReplyDeleteLove your pincushions!! I skipped pinning once, when making a tote bag , and the underside was off just enough to not catch for a whole side... never again! I hate having to rip out seams !!

You have some great pincushions! I really like the snowmen.
ReplyDeleteYour pincushions are sew awesome. I have tried to sew a bottom on a tote many times without pinning and the results were not good at all.
ReplyDeleteRip, rip. I have never learned that lesson.
Thank you for sharing your creativity
They are all great. Hope you are coping ok with the floods. Thanks for sharing and sorry I am late visiting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute bunch of pincushions! I love the teapot. Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteLovely collection of pincushions! I am one that almost always uses pins. :)
ReplyDeleteIn my case, I learned those lessons well from my mom and I always pin and truth be told, probably over-pin! It may be overkill on my part but I try to always do my best piecing and pins help. SO I don't think I can come up with a story. No, I am not a perfectionist.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing all your pincushions, new and old. I did wonder when I didn't see a moose but ah, there he is.
Should have used pins sewing curved pieces
ReplyDeleteGreat bowls! What a lovely collection on pincushions. I do always use pins, and even then there is some un-sewing to be done. Maybe I need more pins, and a better pincushion to keep them handy?!
ReplyDeleteI should have used pins every time I went anywhere near my machine :( Why are we so stubborn???
ReplyDeleteWonderful pincushions, thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteJust love the snowmen, so cute ☺
Hi!!! They are all so fun and cute!!!! Love the snowmen and the moose!!!!! Thank You
ReplyDeleteLove your little quilting ensemble - things like that make me happy - all matchy. Great collection!
