I'm Falling for You Blog Hop...my day!

It's my day to share in the "I'm Falling For You" blog hop.

I've long been a huge fan of Bonnie Hunter and this year, I fell for her, hard! I worked on the "Grassy Creek Mystery" that started last November and have all but the borders done for it. But they just didn't happen once I found the papers I printed for "Pineapple Crazy" from her "String Fling" book.

I dumped all my scraps...well maybe more like shards of fabric. The size a normal person might throw away, and emptied my scrap bins, even used up a box of scraps Selina, from "Selina Quilts" sent me earlier this year. This project is not for the faint of heart. There are 224 - 5" finished size paper pieced blocks, that have 45 pieces in each block! That's a total of 10,080 pieces.
Additionally there were 60 border pieces, but they were a piece of cake with only 30 pieces in each block, which was only 1800 more pieces! Did I mention that they ranged from between 3/4" and 1" wide??? LOL!!
And here it is! All 11,880 pieces of it!
I couldn't have done it without help... Lots of help.
Sweet Pea is getting older now and likes to help. She manages my pieces and helps in removing the papers! Even before I'm done sewing them, sometimes!
I know she is going to be a quilter, because she has mastered that look of disgust,
we all have when things don't work out right!
Seriously though, this really did take a village to finish. I was getting down to the wire and a couple of my quilt club friends spent a Saturday removing paper from my blocks, so I could get this done in time for the hop. A big thanks to Dorothy and Jessica, I couldn't have done it without you!
Here is the corner of the border...Oh my, I completely forgot to add those numbers into my total pieces count!
LOL!!
After it was quilted, it got a thorough inspection!
Then, the official stamp of approval!
And that my friends is what "I am Falling For" this year!

It's been quite a week hasn't it. My fellow bloggers have not disappointed.
Yesterday Karrin dazzled us with so many incredible fall projects.
Beth made an over the top cute Canadian wall hanging.
Daryl shared a project from her UFO pile that just knocked my socks off!
Karen made the sweetest little fall podlet.
Elana made us all fall hard, for her beautiful little pouches!
Kris shared a fun pattern for her "Beanstalk" table runner.

We are wrapping up this week, with these incredible bloggers.
Check them out and leave them a little love!
Happy Fall Ya'll!

  4. OMG! So many pieces, so many blocks, such a huge quilt! My jaw dropped when you said you paper pieced that!!! You are way more patient than I am Joan, lol! Have you ever tried Creative Grids Pineapple ruler? That is the easiest way to make pineapple blocks for me. What a gorgeous quilt and cutie pie helper you have.

  6. Oh my, what a beautiful quilt. Let's just say 12,000 pieces! Bonnie's quilts are all full of pieces. Gorgeous colors - hard to believe it's just made of scraps; what a good feeling that must be. A pineapple block has always been on my list of 'to dos' but you definitely did it up outstandingly. I've enjoyed the week of fun falling for you projects. Thanks for your hard work and all the organizing, Joan. You are appreciated.

  14. Are. You. Serious!!?!! Oh, my gosh, this quilt is stunning! What an amazing quilt! The phrase, "We're not worthy" comes to mind! I'm sitting here with my mouth hung open and drool forming a pool on the keyboard. LOL, no drool. But WOW just doesn't seem to say it. I am in awe of your perseverence. Yup, you are amazing and I always knew it, but here it is in photos to prove it! The quilt is a treasure, along with that little cutie Sweet Pea. Look at that little dimpled smile - she's your mini-me.

  20. You really are insane and I love it (both your insanity and the stunning quilt). It must have taken you almost as much time to count those teeny tiny pieces as to sew them. Can't get over how big your assistant has gotten. Thanks for another wonderful hop.

  25. That is an amazing quilt. And those numbers scare the daylights out of me.
I am pleased you are encouraging/indoctrinating your grandie girl into the ways of quilting. Looks like she is a wonderful help.

  26. I love tiny pieces, but have yet to tackle any thing this big with tiny pieces. This is amazing and absolutely gorgeous! I may finally give it a go myself! Beautiful!

  27. oMG! Joan you have just made my heart stop! I’m in awe of the beauty of this quilt. I thought I was nuts when I did 7” log cabin blocks with 24 pieces, but this goes beyond! I love Bonnie’s patterns and try to keep up with her QAL’s. I’m so happy to see Sweatpea is well on her way to being a helper and quilter in training. Thank you for a really fun hop! I loved being part of it and can admit to adding a few projects to my Must Make List 😉
