Little Green Apples Sew It - Show It Challenge

Let face it, when we think about apples, I bet 90% of us think about those big juice red apples.
But I'm here to tell you "Green" is "Queen"
This little 19" x 24" mini is "Apples" from "Angie Padilla Quilt Patterns"

Maybe it's the pie!
I do love a good apple pie!
Granny Smith apples are my go to for pie making.
We have used the same recipe for years, in my family. As you can see it was from the Parade magazine in the Sunday paper way back in 1979.
Call it the "sky high" or just downright delicious, but it's still our favorite recipe today.
I've long given up on making pie crusts, though, with Pillsbury making pre-made crusts you just unroll, why would I even try!
LOL!!
I'm so crazy over little green apples and baking, that I even made potholders for the occasion! And I am giving them away to 2 different people, just to say thanks for visiting.
Postage is crazy, so you must live in the USA.
To enter the drawing, leave me a sweet little green apple comment and sign up on Rafflecopter.  I will pick 2 different winners on Monday March 27. That gives everyone the weekend, to catch up on blog reading.
My little public service announcement!
I recently read on a Facebook group about using these silicone face and body scrubbers to clean your rotary cutting mats.
Honestly, I didn't even know they made silicone face and body scrubbers, but I had to find them and try them out!
Cutting the Insul-Bright batting for the potholders, left a big mess on my mat.
What better time to give it a try...
Voila!, it really did work well. Who knew?
Now I need to continue on with the rest of the mat.
My mats are a mess and in dire need of replacing. Many of the lines have been worn off.  I know I really need to get on that, but for now these little scrubbers will help keep it lint free anyway.
Amazon carries them, but Wal-Mart in the makeup aisle, was the best deal I found.
How do you like them apples?

A big thanks to Carol from "Just Let Me Quilt" for hosting this delightful challenge. Now hop on over to my fellow bloggers sharing their "green apples" with us today!

Next month's challenge is...
If you would like to play along, drop me an email.

May's challenge is...
Let Carol know if  you want to play along.

til next time...

  2. Just yesterday I was in Walmart looking for these and didn't find them. Now I will have a pic to show a clerk to say where are these!! I was in the makeup area looking as I thought I remembered someone saying that was where. I adore your apple quilt and those pot holders are so darn cute!! The only place I have used green apples was in snicker salad.

  4. Both your projects are just delicious. I love the pot holders. I am not a green apple fan, I prefer sweet varieties to offset the PeanutButter I like to eat with them. I have used green apples when making homemade apple sauce and in a snicker salad. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I had not heard about the silicone scrubbers for cleaning mats. Now where did I put the 2nd one from the package I bought a couple of years ago...

  7. You deliver, deliver, deliver - always. I was going to say 2 for the price of one, but it's more like 4 for the price of one which in this day and age, is an absolute bargain! I loved the quilt you shared, the green apple coasters are adorable (There are going to be two happy people.). Thank you, too, for the pie recipe (I can't believe how many cups of apples are in it, but I'm going to give it a try.) and for the tip on the silicon face scrubbers for the mats - perfect. I have a recipe for soaking mats in the bathtub to give them new life with moisture. Let me know if you'd want me to send that to you. Thanks for all the Little Green Apples and the posting.

  11. That mini quilt is so cute with the different apple blocks. I use those pre-made pie crusts too anymore. They are better than my piecrust from scratch.

  16. Your little quilt is perfectly sweet and beautiful! Green apples need lots of sugar or they make my face pucker. Since I'm already puckered enough, I'll pass on the green apples. Great way to clean the mats. Too bad you don't live closer...I have several mats not being used.

  19. What a darling little quilt and potholders! They would look adorable in my kitchen. That recipe looks delicious. I will definitely add this recipe to my collection. And thank you for the tip on the silicone scrubber. I was about to throw out my old mat, thinking it was hopeless to remove all the embedded threads and fluff.

  20. Green is Queen especially in you adorable apple quilt, Joan. I can not stop admiring it . Thank you so much for the Sky High Pie Crust and Apple Filling recipes. They are a must do. Hmmm. I would have never thought of instant oats in it. And great tip on the silicone scrubber . I will be adding that to my list. You certainly rocked this challenge.

  21. These are all so cute. Your applique is perfect and the designs are so sweet. Thanks for the recipe too. My crust recipe calls for vinegar and lard too - a hand me down recipe from my grandmother. I like a mixture of the granny smith and honeycrisp apples in my pies and crisps. My mats are in need of replacing too - disappearing lines and lint. I'll have to try the scrubber.

  22. Your apples are adorable! I have been using the same recipe for pie dough since as far as I can remember. Growing up around Amish, Mennonites & being PA Dutch, you stick with a sure thing. Never heard of using Vinager. And my apple of choice is the Granny Smith Apple for pies and Snitz. I gotta say your post reminded me of when I used to blog hop. Kinda miss it. I read your post a lot, truly enjoy them, just don't get a chance to comment. 💕

  30. Well, I was going to say the tart crispiness of Granny Smith is so delicious, but Google took my comment and I don't know if it kept it or trashed it! LOL I do like your quilt, and those potholders are so fabulous. Thank you for giving them away and for a chance to win one. Thanks for the recipe, too. It's amazing that you still have it, and I've copied it to my desk top to try.
